About Us About Us

Every dynasty has an origin story. Ours begins in Davyton, Manchester, Jamaica — where Catherine Smikle-Watt, daughter of an Ashanti woman freed from bondage, and Henry Watt of Belaire, laid a foundation stronger than the limestone beneath their feet.

What started with love, resilience, and a plot of land in Banana Ground has branched across five generations and counting. We’ve gone from handwritten deeds and parish baptisms to group chats and family reunions — and somehow, we’re still growing.

This site is our living archive. A place to remember the ones who came before, celebrate the ones here now, and make room for the ones yet to arrive. Pull up a chair. The stories are good.

A Little Context A Little Context

Jamaica, 1850–1950 Our people lived through slavery’s aftermath, colonial rule, two World Wars, and the slow march toward independence. They farmed, they worshipped, they built homes, they named their children after prophets and ancestors alike. They didn’t have much by way of official records — but they left us us. That’s documentation enough.

Featured Ancestors

Catherine Smikle-Watt (1850–1920) The Matriarch

Born into a Jamaica still finding its footing after Emancipation, Catherine’s name appears on a property deed before it ever appeared in a birth registry. She married Henry Watt at Davyton Union Chapel, raised ten children, and proved that freedom isn’t just a legal status — it’s a legacy you build.

Henry Watt (c. 1835–1913) The Patriarch

A man of Belaire with no surviving records of his birth, but plenty of evidence of his life. Husband to Catherine, father to a dynasty, and the reason we’re all here. Some legacies don’t need paperwork.

Rosa Ann Watt Sewell (1871–1950) The Bridge

Born under British colonial rule, married at Davyton Union Church, mother of ten and grandmother of many more. Rosa Ann lived through the turn of a century and connected the Watt line to the Sewell name. If you’re here, you probably owe her a thank-you.
